Being a "green salon"
Good day everyone!
With so much going on in the world today, so much to do, so much to think about. How can we squeeze being more responsible and ethical in such a busy life? It's easy!
My ideal salon would be 100% green and sustainable. But alas, the salon is in the world we live in so I have to do the most I can do responsibly to leave as little a carbon footprint as I can.
These are some of the things which make my salon quite green and somewhat sustainable.
First and foremost, I recycle EVERYTHING! It's easy to do and probably the most important when running a business, or household for that matter! Most everything in the salon is made of glass, drinking glasses, coffee mugs, etc, etc. Always use recycled paper products such as napkins and paper towels. Nothing food related is kept in plastic, only glass. The garbage bags are made of 100% compostable non gmo potato! So the things that are not for recycling that go in the garbage will decompose much quicker! The salon keeps water usage to an absolute minimum. And I only deal with privately owned, ethical, responsible and sustainable companies. Now my salon is very small so it is not difficult to be responsible. But it takes just a small amount of effort to do small things that make a huge impact on the environment! I work with two companies exclusively. Shear Miracle Organics Hair Care and Organic Color Systems. Both which are very responsible, very sustainable, vegan and cruelty-free. Both companies use responsible packaging when they ship their products which is very important! All these ingredients make for very happy people, happy animals and an appreciative earth! So let's join hands and make our efforts, big and small to becoming a more compassionate, responsible society!
As a salon owner and stylist, it is my ethical duty to provide a clean, safe and sustainable salon for my clients, the animals, the earth and myself.
Have a compassionate day everyone!
